Australia - Telegraph lines.
For the love of a good Turkey.

The Geelong Advertiser of 23 September 1876 published the following encounter:

" A rather peculiar experience opened, or rather closed, the eyes of some wild turkeys somewhere between Longerenong and Horsham a few days since. Mr T. Darcy was driving along the road when seven wild turkeys rose near and flew off in alarm. So hurried was their flight that they did not see the telegraph wire and two came against it with such force as to sever the head of one from its body and injure the other so much as to render its capture a matter of ease. Both were large heavy birds - one weighing about 17 1b".
